Computing
INTENT
Computing and Information Technology is an integral part of modern society and is therefore an essential part of a child’s learning. In St Margaret Mary’s Infants we strive to ensure that all pupils have the opportunity to gain the skills, confidence and abilities to use Computing and Information Technology effectively to learn, communicate and create in order to prepare them for the challenges of the technological world. It is our aim that the use of ICT will enhance and extend learning throughout the school and beyond whilst developing motivation, social skills and safe use of the available tools.
IMPLEMENTATION
The computing curriculum allows our children to develop new skills in computer science, information technology and digital literacy, and focuses on developing their ‘computational thinking’.
Through the use of technology all teachers are able to ensure their lessons are stimulating and interactive for our children. The teachers and children are supported by a specialist teacher form the Knowsley City Learning Centre. Mr Ellis is able to support the teaching of computing throughout the school and enriches lesson content with new and exciting innovations and resources.

E-safety is a fundamental element of the computing curriculum in our school. Through our approach we aim to teach pupils how to use the internet safely and securely, so they are able to make informed choices online. We believe that our pupils benefit from having experience of, and access to, a range of technologies in order to broaden their understanding.
IMPACT
Our children make good progress in computing and are well prepared for the next stage in their learning. They are able to use technology to create, save and retrieve. They are able to use and understand algorithms to make things happen with technology.
